Every time one of these tech behemoths trots out their latest "ethical AI" initiative, I feel my soul curdle. It’s the most transparent, cynical PR move in the playbook, and the fact that anyone takes it seriously is frankly terrifying. This isn't about ethics. It's about brand management. It’s a tranquilizer dart aimed directly at the neck of regulators, journalists, and a public that’s starting to get justifiably nervous about the black boxes these companies are building.
They assemble these star-studded "ethics boards," parading out a couple of defanged academics and a philosopher-in-residence to reassure us that, yes, they’ve thought really hard about the implications of creating a digital god. We’re meant to see these boards and think, “Oh, good, the adults are in the room.” But who are these people, really? Are they empowered to halt a billion-dollar project? Can they fire a CEO for pushing a dangerous product to market? Or are they just there to rubber-stamp the inevitable and provide cover when things go sideways?

Let’s call "Ethical AI" what it really is: the "clean coal" of the 21st century. It's a marketing term designed to make an inherently messy, potentially dangerous technology sound palatable and safe. It's a comforting lie whispered into our ears while the house is quietly being rewired to burn down. This ain't about making the world a genuinely better place; it's about ensuring the stock price doesn't dip when their new algorithm automates another 100,000 jobs or flags the wrong people as potential criminals.
